Sustainability
When it comes to sustainability, our focus is on creating re-usable and recyclable products and limiting the amount of packaging used.
Our candles are handmade with biodegradable soy wax and recyclable jars and lids. We don't use any synthetic fragrances because we believe they can be toxic for you and may cause air pollution. We only use 100% pure essential oils.
Every candle comes in a reusable cotton bag.
For shipping, we use recycled kraft paper and honeycomb (a sustainable alternative to bubble wrap), and recyclable shipping boxes. Sometimes we use biodegradable packaging peanuts. We also reuse packaging that's been sent to us by vendors (unfortunately these are not always sustainable, but it would be wasteful for us not to reuse it). We encourage our customers to reuse these materials as well, if possible.
Why do we use soy wax?
Soy wax is considered a sustainable choice for candles because it is made from renewable, biodegradable soybeans. Unlike paraffin wax, which is derived from non-renewable petroleum, soy wax is plant-based and has a much lower environmental impact. Its production supports sustainable farming practices, as soybeans are a widely grown crop that can be replanted annually. Additionally, soy wax burns cleaner and longer, producing less soot and waste, making it an eco-friendly option for candle lovers who want to reduce their carbon footprint.
Why do we not use beeswax? From an ethical perspective, beeswax is not considered cruelty-free because its production often involves disrupting bee colonies and harvesting honey, which can harm the bees' natural processes. Many people prefer waxes like soy or coconut, which are not only more sustainable and affordable but also cruelty-free and cleaner-burning, making them a better choice for eco-conscious consumers.
